Let's face it, getting an area rug that properly frames your furniture is just as important to how it looks.
Here are some general guidelines to help you select the appropriate size for different spaces:
Living Room
1. Large Rugs (9x12 or larger):
- Ideal for large living rooms.
- All furniture (sofa, chairs, coffee table) should sit on the rug.
- There should be 10-20 inches of bare floor between the rug and the walls of the room.

2. Medium Rugs (8x10):
- Most common size for living rooms.
- The front legs of all major furniture pieces should be on the rug.
- Ensure there is a few inches of space between the rug and the walls.
3. Small Rugs (5x8):
- Works well for small living rooms. Like this beautiful 4x6 Teal Non-Slip Pattern Rug - one of our favourites and comes in a ton of colours!
- The rug should sit in front of the sofa with the legs of the furniture off the rug.

Dining Room
1. Large Rugs:
- Should be large enough to fit the table and all chairs, even when pulled out.
- Generally, add 24-30 inches to each side of the dining table's dimensions.
2. Medium Rugs:
- Ensure the rug is large enough to fit at least the table and the front legs of the chairs.
Bedrooms
1. Large Rugs:
- Ideally, place the rug under the bed extending beyond the bed by at least 2-3 feet on each side.
- For a king or queen-sized bed, a 9x12 rug works well.
2. Medium Rugs:
- Place a smaller rug horizontally under the bed covering the bottom two-thirds of the bed.
- For a queen-sized bed, an 8x10 rug works well. Our pick? This gorgeous soft Shag Rug comes in a variety of colours.
3. Small Rugs:
- Use runners on either side of the bed.
- Place a small rug at the foot of the bed for a touch of comfort and style.
Hallways
1. Runners:
- Measure the length and width of the hallway.
- Leave a few inches of floor visible on all sides of the runner.
Kitchen
1. Small Rugs:
- Use smaller rugs or runners in front of the sink or stove.
- Ensure the rug is slip-resistant or use a rug pad.
