Summer, summer, summer-time… Time to sit back and unwind! But first, we decorate!

Summer is the perfect time to refresh your home decor and bring a bit of sunshine indoors. With just a few simple changes, you can create a bright and cheerful atmosphere that captures the vibes of the season.

I recently visited my favorite HomeSense store and was amazed by the stunning summer and outdoor decor pieces they had on display, perfectly coordinated to enhance your home and mood.

A summer refresh   doesn’t have to be a daunting or expensive task. With three active boys, take it from me, I try to do things that won't take up too much time.

With a few thoughtful touches, you can create a vibrant, refreshing space that uplifts your mood and complements your busy lifestyle.

Here are some easy and effective ways to decorate your home this summer.

1. Seek out Light and Airy Fabrics

Swap out heavy winter textiles for lighter, airier fabrics. Opt for cotton or linen curtains, pillow covers, and throws in soft, breezy colors like white, pastel, or nautical stripes. These materials not only feel cooler but also allow natural light to filter through, brightening up your space.

This Pack of 2 Linen Pillow Covers with Tassels won't break the bank and will lighten up any room instantly.

 2. Introduce Fresh Florals and Greenery

Nothing says summer like fresh flowers and lush greenery. Incorporate vibrant floral arrangements and potted plants throughout your home. Consider placing a bouquet of sunflowers on your dining table, a vase of wildflowers on your mantel, or a few succulents on your window sills. I love this terranium set with perfect simplicity and reflection.

Indoor plants not only add color but also purify the air, making your home feel fresher.

Do something different. Go for this cool Indoor Herb Garden Kit with Grow Light or even an artificial option like this Silk Olive Tree

 3. Try a Splash of Color

Summer is the perfect time to experiment with bold, vibrant colors. Add pops of color through accessories like throw pillows, rugs, and wall art. Bright yellows, ocean blues, and tropical greens can instantly uplift your space. Add this fun  Lucca Contemporary Floral Indoor/Outdoor Area Rug by RugShop.  Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors to create a lively and inviting atmosphere.

Add a perfect pop of colour: We love these adorable Shatterproof Colourful Stemless Wine Glasses and Unbreakable Plastic Coloured Whiskey Glasses.

4. Update Your Outdoor Spaces

Extend your living space by sprucing up your outdoor areas. Consider adding new outdoor furniture, like this Comfortable Lounge Chair or a stylish patio set. Decorate with outdoor rugs, cushions, and string lights to create a cozy, inviting ambiance for those warm summer nights. A few potted plants on this stylish Outdoor Side Table for Patio, or any hanging baskets can add a touch of nature and beauty to your outdoor space.

 5. Incorporate Natural Elements

Bring the outside in by incorporating natural elements into your decor. Think wicker baskets, wooden accents, and endless birchwood like these unique Flameless Candles with a Birch Effect,  all things that remind you of summer.  A bowl of collected seashells or a driftwood centerpiece can evoke the feeling of a beach getaway right in your home. Natural materials like fire add texture and warmth, making your space feel more relaxed and inviting. We loved the look of this Cast Iron Fire Pit Table to add a natural element.

 6. Refresh Your Bedding

Swap out your heavy winter bedding for lighter options. Choose crisp, breathable sheets and lightweight quilts or coverlets in summery colors and patterns. We loved these Pure Linen Sheets in neutral. Floral prints, nautical stripes, and tropical motifs can give your bedroom a fresh, seasonal update. Don’t forget to add a few decorative pillows for an extra touch of summer style.

 7. Scent Your Space

Fragrance plays a significant role in setting the mood of your home. Choose light, fresh scents for the summer, such as citrus, lavender, or ocean breeze. Use candles, diffusers, or potpourri to spread these delightful aromas throughout your home. A pleasant scent like this Lavendar and Thyme scented Candle from Chesapeake Bay, can make your space feel more inviting and enhance the overall summer vibe.

Other ways you can add fragrance? Consider this GEEZO Fragrance Candle Warmer Lamp and MRS. MEYER'S Room and Air Freshener Spray.

Bonus: Declutter, Clean and Simplify

Summer is all about simplicity and ease. Believe me when I say, this does not come as natural to me as I would like.

A fresh summer update can truly rejuvenate and refresh your space. At the start of each season, I smudge my home to clear out any bad vibes.  For this, I wuse xx and walk all four corners of my house.  Leaves the rooms feeling fresh and provides a new start to the season.

Take the opportunity to declutter your space and get rid of any unnecessary items. A clean, uncluttered home feels more open and relaxing. Focus on keeping only the essentials and a few decorative pieces that bring joy and enhance your summer decor theme.

I personally followed, ok,  loosely followed, the Marie Kondo 'KonMari method to getting organized. It's a constant work in progress but I love the useful information and reminders found in her two starter books:

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing and Spark Joy - both I have been important in my own journey.

This Furinno Tree Bookshelf was the first organization item I bought to help clear my space and house my new books. These Collabsible Fabric Storage Bins were the second. Each room I tackle is a step towards having totally organized home.

By incorporating these easy decorating ideas, you can transform your home into a summer sanctuary. Embrace the season’s light, airy feel and enjoy the fresh, vibrant atmosphere that summer decor brings. Happy decorating!
